Since I had a bit of money into my Lancia I decided to put on an alarm
system. The one I chose was by DEI ( make Viper alarms ). It has a two stage
shock sensor, starter kill, power lock interface, 2nd channel output, current
sensing, code reporting, and more standard features. Most brand name alarms
today will come with these standard as well as more depending on the model.
For the novice electician I would recomend having the sound shop you buy it from install it. For two reasons - the alarm maker most likely will have a gurantee on their alarm and if your car is stolen they will reimburse about two thousand dollars ( dependent on brand) but the alarm must be installed by someone certified by the company, the second reason for having it installed is that an alram system is 10% electronics and 90% installation plus you won't have to slave through the wiring harnesses trying to find the right wires w/ a multimeter, just let someone else do it. Sure they won't know what the hell you're driving and they may even ask you to spell it but most shops charge a flat rate (~$50) for an alarm install so if it takes the installer 20 min on a ford and an hour on your Lancia, they still charge the same price.
