Fulvia Flavia Flaminia

Q:I plan to do a carburettor job on my Fulvia. I am afraid that the throttle valves may have damaged the sides. The thought has come up if it is possible to replace the carbs with modern carbs. If it gives a saving on fuel consumption of 10%, they will pay for themselves within a year.

A: I do not know any suitable carbs apart from Solex (very good but prone to wear) or Dellorto (virtually bullet-proof since they even have bearing on the throttle spindles).

Omicron Eng. in Norwich (UK) will overhaul and service Fulvia carbs replacing damaged components.

Carb rubber mounts are damaged by lack of support (missing stabilizer bar fixing carbs to engine near the oil filter base or a damaged rubber bush); hence carbs flex and crack.

Carb tuning is complex and should not be left to the un-experienced. If carbs are properly tuned, Fulvias are extremely economical in terms of fuel consumption: the real problem is that often carbs are not properly set-up or tuned.
