The Scala
is back – Grazie Francesco
|
Nel 2007 il
collezionista romano Francesco Vvellucci ha
gloriosamente riportato in Italia, dall’Inghilterra, la Gamma Scala,
prototipo, e vedessi come tira.... !
Comunque la vedrete a Parma, l'ho iscritta

Hi!
The news concernes the very first Gamma Coupe (Prototipo) from 1974 (!!)
previous owned by famous Ausrian Carlo Abarth. Its a silver painted car
with black leather interior. Unfortunately its
pretty rusty and stood since several years in a (dry) garage. Since it needs
some work I am going
to sell this unique piece of history for Eur
5.000,-
If you are interested (or know how are) please let me know.

Survived Gammas in Switzerland
|
Dear Gammisti ,
I just received an information from the federal office of transportation
about the numbers of Gamma's still registered and road taxed here in Switzerland :
GAMMA
BERLINA 2500 = 2
GAMMA BERLINA 2500 i.e = 6
GAMMA COUPÉ 2500 = 20
GAMMA COUPÉ 2500 i.e = 17
As I look up for this record once a year the amount of Gamma's is still
decreasing. Each model 1 or 2 less each year. But I think it's going to stabalise within 2 or 3 years.
Best regards,
René Hechtl

Olgiata chassis number !
|
We
discovered the chassis number of the Olgiata Prototype : it's the AC4 1352 and it's now owned by Mr.
G.C.L. , living close to Milano . it follows the
article of Ruoteclassiche - September 2002 :
ASPIRANTE
STATION WAGON
in vent'anni.

fossero decisi a produrla.

contrapposti, alimentato a iniezione elettronica.
velocità massima di quasi 200 all'ora; l'impianto

Yes, I was in Gamma
City
|
Dear Gammisti ,
I am looking forward to the upcoming Gamma meeting in Holland. Convinced that
the organizers are doing a great job, I hope to meet many of you in Zoetermeer. Neverless I had
already some kind of "pre-Gamma-meeting" here in Switzerland last weekend !
I visited Boris how lives near Basel and how is a
really Gamma nuts, maybe even more then I am. Unfortunately he can not join
the meeting, which is pretty sad because he owns a superb champ. met. Coupe since 3 years.
To my surprise this was not the only Gamma in this village
! There were an ther
9 cars to see, yes 10 Gamma Coupes in total. And all this maybe on 1 or 2
square/km, unbelievable. You can not imaging but you just drive around the
block there are 2 Coupes parked, then an other 200 meters and you see the
next Gamma on a parking lot, an other 800 meters 4 Gamma in a row under the
trees !
And so
on, Gamma's everywhere ! Going crazy. There were 3 silver Coupes 2nd serie belong to Boris, then an other 6 Coupes
which belong to a man how is driving Gamma since they exist in Switzerland. He also lives in the same village.
There was a nearco red one 2nd serie,
a silver met.one 2nd serie
(lowered!), a white one 1st serie, an other silver met. 2nd/carb., an other red 2nd
serie(maybe
nearco ) and last but not least a white 2nd serie. My main
goal on this trip was to pick up the recently purchased white Coupe 2nd Serie. It looks dreadful on the pictures but the body is
not too bad. I was surprised to see it after a wash and maybe will be more
surprised after a polish. The car was last registred
in 1989, but it is not possible that it
was outside that much long. The state is to good.
Yes, I was in Gamma city.
See you soon,

Lotti di
produzione della GAmma 830-AC4
|
Premessa:
produzione LAncia dovrebbero essere state prodotte in 1209 esemplari .
Telai "1000" :
(9645) . Sempre a questo lotto potrebbero appartenere tutte
quelle Gamma full optionals destinate a sedi
definito queste Gamma coupe'
Ciao a tutti !

A Blue
Gamma in USA!
|
I am a former Scorpion owner of 7 years and have always longed for a
Gamma Coupe. Looking over your registry I see that none are listed in the US. I saw
one dark blue one in Sarasota,
Florida
a few years ago but that is the only one I have ever seen in person. It was a
stunning vehicle in perfect condition. I have no info on it but I know that
there was at least one in Florida.
I guess it is pretty much impossible to import used ones what with all the
red tape. Anyway, keep up the good work. I have to be content with my two
FIAT 124 Coupes (72 & 73).

- 6 LEFT IN NEW ZEALAND: one with a Thema V6 engine in it !
|
Graham Ward's info re Gamma's in New Zealand is wrong. There were 13 cars brought into NZ, and ranged from s1 to
"s2". THere were only age and cosmetic
details, no major engine mods that anyone in NZ
knows about. No one has seen the 2.5ie at all. There are 6 left in NZ,
including a Gamma with a Thema V6 engine in it. THere are cars around for wrecking.

CITROEN-MASERAI V6 ENGINE ON ONE AC !
|
I was told by an old research & development
senior at Lancia in 1981 that Lancia
had tried the Citroen-Maserati V6 in a Gamma coupe,
but only as a design exercise. It was possible, with the discussions taking
place at that time with Citroen and PSA that there could have been a tie-up,
and that an exchange of engines may be possible, but that proposal never got
past the talking stage.
The engine
was too heavy and was too far ahead of the front axle line, anyway. Lancia did have a V6 proposal on paper according to E.
Garibaldi, who was the director of export (outside Europe) in the
seventies. He was my contact at Lancia from 1967.
He retired in 1988 (I believe).
He
also told me in 1981 when I was in Torino that
there had been some discussion at high management level back in 1970 that the
FIAT 130 should be marketed as a Lancia, but this
was not given the go ahead by a Senior FIAT man (Whom I cannot remember by
name - but I will look up my diary) who subsequently left FIAT just as the
130 Berlina was released.
On my
files it states that production of the Gamma coupe started in late1976 and
that of the first series, 1978 examples were made of the 2.000 engine, and
2337 with the 2.5 litre. It actually mentions that
production was halted in late 1979, and not recommenced until about April
1980 with the second series cars. Of these 1265 had the 2 litre
engine, and 1209 the 2.5 engine with either injection
of carburrettor. This is a toal
of 6770 coupes, 3243 with 2000 engine and 3546 with the larger engine.
According
to FIAT Centro Storico they only made 4474 FIAT 130
Coupe, and this figure was verified by Pininfarina.

TASMANIA: THE
MOST EXOTIC GAMMA COUPE'
|
Malcolm Pickering of Wynyard, Tasmania
owns the first Gamma Coupe to come to Australia. He advises as follows:
Year
of Manufacture 1978. Imported into Australia in September 1978.
Registerd by FIAT of Australia in September
1978. Brought in for market research. Model 2500 Series manual transmission,
Chassis number 830.ACO.002143, Original Engine number 830.A000.006515. Now
replaced with engine number 830.A054.001001. This engine was brought in by
FIAT of Australia and used for
display purposes. It was sold to Malcolm Pickering in 1986, and fitted to the
car in early 1987. Body number 697.000238, Colour
Metallic grey, Interior Bright blue velour and cream vinyl trim
History:
The
car was originally displayed by FIAT of Australia in October 1978
at the Sydney Motor Show. It was then taken to the NSW Lancia
Motor Club Rally at Goulburn in late October that
year by the then director of Lancia sales in Australia, Bob Neave. I drove this car on that occasion. In May 1979 it
was purchased by Davies Car Centre Pty.Ltd, cnr Wellington and Frederick Streets, Launceston, Tasmania 7250. It was
delivered in early June 1979 and re-registered with Tasmanian number plates.
In December 1980, it was sold by Davies Car Centre to Mr
Trevor Stott, owner/operator of Trevor Stott Machinery, 177 Bass
Highway, Cooee,
Tasmania 7320. In a
letter dated December 3, 1980 from Ken Davies, of Davies Car Centre to Trevor
Stott, prior to the purchase of the car, it is stated that this model and all
other Gamma Coupes and Sedans sold in Tasmania, were United Kingdom versions,
and as such did not have Australian Compliance Plates not anti-pollution
equipment fitted.
Malcolm
Pickering purchased the car from Trevor Stott ion July 3, 1983 and has owned
the car to this date. In 1987 Pickering suffered a minor
road accident in the car, rolling it into a ditch at the road side at low
speed. Since then th car has not been repaired, despite
the acquisition of all the new parts necessary to repair the car. This has
been due to a number of factors, but mainly to the fact that Pickering has been unable
to find a repaier who is interested in rebuilding
the car to the exacting standards he demands. The original engine covered
100,000 kms before being removed from the car and
dismantled for repair. The replacement engine was fitted but has only covered
2000 kms.

AUSTRALIA : ONE 2 liters RHD !
|
Gene Marshall purchased his 2000 Coupe from Adelaide
in 1981. This car is RHD and as far as we know the only 2000 Coupe in Australia. It is white with blue and cream upholstery. The factory advised in
1981 that they had not built very many RHD 2000 Coupe
- possibly 4 or 5. What can you say about this? It has factory fitted air
conditioning, chassis number 830AC2.002195, engine number 830.A2.000.006354
. This car was imported to Australia by a gentleman who lived in Adelaide.

AUSTRALIA : A GREAT
CONTRIBUTE FROM GRAHAME !
|
There are a few Gamma Coupe
in Australia. I own two, my brother Tony has one and my business accociate Gene Marshall has another. We know of another
ten Gamma Coupe here. All but one were privately
imported. There were also 13 Coupe delivered into New Zealand, all 2500 ie second series. I
There
are five Gamma Berlina in Australia. Three are
series one cars and two injected series two. My brothers
2500ie Berlina was originally purchased by the
South African Government and sent to Australia for the
Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa to use here. My
brother purchased the car in 1987. It still had the flag standard on the left
hand front mudguard, and the South African flag in the glovebox!
I
believe that Lancia built 800 RHD series one 2500
coupe, and 30 series two 2500ie RHD coupe. They built 1800 Berlina in RHD. They sold about 400 in England, around 50 in Hong Kong, 20 in South Africa, and a few in Europe. I know of one
in Belgium RHD. The only
car to come to Australia direct was the
Mr. Pickering one (see above) , whilst my brothers
coupe was the only one sold by the factory to an Australian as a new car.
They did intend to sell Gamma in Australia but the
importers changed their minds, and I have never been able to find out why.
The early spare parts books actually list specific items for "Australia". I really
love these cars. They are so good to drive, and so beautiful to look at. One
of the great cars of the century, but sadly not appreciated by motor
enthusiasts. I have driven all these Gammas except the last one, number 10 on
the list.

Pierluigi, Some time
in the next few days, Ian Hodson, our secretary
will send you a list of Gammas in the UK which we
know about. About 950 coupes and 1200 Berlinas were
imported into England,
only a fraction survive.
The
T-Roof coupe is well known to everyone here, I have examined it in some
detail, ( Ö omissis Ö ). (Omissis) . I read with interest
about the Pavesi car, and this prompts me to ask if
you knwo anythign about a
rumour of a handful of coupes which are alleged to
be finished in white with tobacco leather interior, original twin headlamps,
air conditioning. These are said to be the last 25 Gammas made and are said
to have gone to various Italian embassies around the world. Do you know
anything about this?
See you

A few

Pope used this car on a trip in Northern Italy in the early
1980's. If this is true, I would like to try to obtain a picture to keep with

exposed some years. Then it was stoked in a japanese
Port for a lot of time directly under the rain and without roof. That's what

Gamma
Coupè "Pavesi".
|
WANTED , DEATH OR ALIVE !
Is she still alive?
This
is the Gamma Coupè "Pavesi".
She
was made by Pavesi in one piece only (I think) for
an arabian Prince (or similarÖ)
on the summer of 1982.
The
mechanic should be the standard 2500ie: the interior are extremely full of white/blue
leather and "radica" wood.
